The four domains of the 3DM6 Approach are:

  1. Objective Analysis – Define what success looks like using Target Events

  2. Decision Analysis – Identify the Impactful Decisions and understand their characteristics

  3. Essential Analysis – Use foundational data to support better decisions

  4. Solution Design – Develop solutions that are complete, aligned, and adaptable

This article is about Decision Analysis.

3DM6 Decision Analysis focuses on identifying and understanding the characteristics of Impactful Decisions most likely to influence the Target Events tied to your objectives.

Understanding the nature of those decisions will design effective improvements, manage change, and make better use of technology, including AI.

Decision Characteristics That Influence Solution Design

Not all decisions are created equal. The characteristics of a decision as an impact on how to improve it.

Each characteristic below could justify a full article of its own. Combinations of characteristics provide even further insight into how to approach design, automation, implementation, and change. For now, I’ll introduce each one briefly along with some design implications.
